Tom Blanchard has been serving his community and his country since 1977, when at the age of 17 he had to ask his Mother for permission to enlist in the U.S. Navy. Tom went on to be trained as a Navy Corpsman at the Balboa Naval hospital in San Diego. When he had just turned 18 years old he received additional training to become a Field Medic and served with the Fleet Marine Force in Camp LeJune, North Carolina. Once he completed his service with the Navy he returned to his hometown in Southern California and put himself through the Police Academy as well as Paramedic School. He also graduated from the Huntington Beach Fire Fighter Academy and received a certificate in Fire Science. During this same period, he received his real estate license and entered the field in the early 1980’s, when the United States was in a severe economic recession and interest rates exceeded 18%. He worked in real estate and for Los Angeles County as a paramedic until 1988, when he moved to Las Vegas. He continued to work as a paramedic in Clark County with Mercy Ambulance and even worked out at the Nevada Test Site having received his Top Secret Clearance. In 1995, Tom transitioned to real estate full-time.

In 2002, just one month after the birth of his son Ethan, Tom started his own real estate company – 1st Realty Group. He is an award-winning small business owner and real estate broker and has provided leadership and education to the industry at large. He has spoken at national industry conventions and has provided commentary in several magazine articles and television appearances. He was once asked if he had a crystal ball, as he accurately predicted the housing collapse that we are slowly coming out of today. He was awarded the Businessman of the Year by the National Republican Congressional Committee in 2006. In 2007 he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Merit and the Congressional Honor of Distinction. He was among a select group of business people to advise the Bush Administration on the housing crisis.

In 2013 Tom became the founding President of the Las Vegas Chapter for the Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals (VAREP) which is part of a nationwide nonprofit 501(c)(3) community service organization dedicated to increasing sustainable homeownership and economic development for the active military and veteran communities. In 2014 this start up chapter was able to acquire a home, rehab it and provide it Mortgage Free to a well deserving Veteran and his family. Tom has also been involved with other local Real Estate Trade Associations like the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals® (NAHREP) and the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA).

In 2014 Tom was elected to the Greater Las Vegas Association of REALTORS® (GLVAR) Board of Directors and was re-elected for another 2-year term in 2015. He serves or has served on Professional Standards, Political Action Committee, Bylaws, Risk Reduction, Community Outreach and is involved in many other committees. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Nevada Association of REALTORS® (NVAR), which represents the REALTORS® across the state of Nevada.

Tom is looking forward to celebrating his 15th wedding anniversary with his wife Krista in July and their son Ethan will be 14 in September.
